He was best known for his time with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), where he wrestled under the ring name Yokozuna. He was also known for his appearances with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) as Great Kokina. Yokozuna is the highest rank of sumo wrestling. It was not recorded on the banzuke until 1890 and was not officially recognised as sumo's highest rank until 1909.
